Local Institute backs Rally Motorsport
Show
Central Rotorua CBD will transform into Motorsport
Central when the Hella International Rally of Rotorua comes to town
on Friday 26th May. This year the traditional Motorsport
Show is supported by the Waiariki Institute of Technology with a
colourful array of competition cars and trade displays taking part
in the lead up to the ceremonial start for the third round of the
2006 FIA Asia Pacific Rally Championship.
The Motorsport Show will surround City Focus on Tutanekai
Street in central Rotorua, commencing at 1pm on Friday afternoon,
and will include vehicles from all forms of motorsport including
Rallycars, V8 Touring Cars, Go-Karts, Super Trucks, Jet Boats and
Speedway machinery.
From 4pm onwards the entire rally field will then
assemble in the adjacent area. Drivers and their vehicles will be
on display providing the opportunity for the public to rub shoulders
with the drivers and their machinery and collect souvenir posters
and autographs. Merchandise and trade displays will also be
operating in the area, providing a festival atmosphere in the lead
up to the Asia Pacific Rally Championship entrants crossing the
ceremonial start ramp in City Focus from 6pm onwards.

Laurie Brenssell stated, "The Motorsport Show is a great opportunity
for the public to get up close to some amazing competition cars
and meet the guys and girls that drive them. This event will be
a real spectacle and the ideal build up to the start of the rally."
Following the ceremonial start activities at 6.00pm
on Friday 26th May at City Focus in the heart of Rotorua,
the Hella International Rally of Rotorua gets underway in earnest
on Saturday morning and incorporates two legs of competition in
the Rotorua and Eastern Bay of Plenty region, before concluding
with the victory celebrations on the finish podium located at the
Village Green on the Rotorua Lakefront. The first car is due to
finish the event at 3.30pm on the afternoon of Sunday 28th
May.
