26th - 28th May 2006

28 May 2006

Attention Sports Editors

Mason draws nearer in Hella Rally of Rotorua

New Zealand champion Richard Mason has edged closer to the lead midway through the final day of the Hella International Rally of Rotorua.

Three time Australian Rally champion Cody Cocker clings to an 11 second advantage with three special stages remaining.

Crocker, who leads the Asia Pacific Rally Championship comfortably, started the day with a 13 second buffer over Mason, who is well clear at the head of the Parker Enzed New Zealand Rally field in the combined international event.

The Australian extended his overnight advantage to 15 seconds after special stage eight near Rotorua before Mason (Masterton) clawed back two seconds in each of the next two stages.

The Subaru pair are well clear of the nearest challenger with Sam Murray (Palmerston North) in third place overall 7min 39sec behind.

The ceremonial finish is on the lakefront in Rotorua at 3.30pm.
